Can I change employer on a Critical Skills permit?
Yes, but your new employer must apply for a new Critical Skills permit before you start. You have 6 months to find a new employer if you lose your job. Processing takes 8-10 weeks. Source: irishimmigration.ie
When do I need to renew my IRP card?

Can my spouse work in Ireland if I have a Critical Skills permit?
Yes. Your spouse gets a Stamp 1G which allows them to work for any employer without their own permit. They must register within 90 days of arriving and pay the 300 euro IRP fee. Source: irishimmigration.ie
What is the difference between Stamp 1 and Stamp 4?
Stamp 1 means you can only work for the employer on your permit. Stamp 4 means you can work for any employer with no permit needed. Critical Skills holders get Stamp 4 after 21 months. General Employment holders after 57 months. Source: citizensinformation.ie
What is emergency tax and how do I fix it?
Emergency tax applies when Revenue does not have your tax credits. Fix it by logging into myAccount at revenue.ie, adding your new employer, and giving the updated tax credit certificate to your payroll department. Source: revenue.ie
How long does IRP registration take in Dublin?
Currently 8-10 weeks for a first appointment at Burgh Quay. Book immediately when you arrive. You must register within 90 days of arrival. Outside Dublin register at your local Garda station. Source: irishimmigration.ie
What is the minimum salary for a Critical Skills permit in 2026?
From March 2026 the minimum is 40,904 euro per year with a degree, or 68,911 euro without a degree. Check current figures at enterprise.gov.ie before applying. Source: enterprise.gov.ie
What happens to my permit if I lose my job?
